Beginnings – A Montessori Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary school
provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for students ages 2 1/2 through 12 years.
- The school’s program draws heavily from the ideas of Maria Montessori (1870 – 1952), a physician and educator who called attention to the rapid mental development that occurs in a child between birth and the age of six.
Dr. Montessori’s work demonstrated the importance of a child’s physical environment, noting that the appropriate materials can awaken his/her interest in learning and stimulate his/her imagination and creativity.
The Montessori classroom provides a rich environment with numerous opportunities for observation, exploration and movement, enabling each student to learn according to his/her individual needs and capabilities.
Recognizing a child’s innate ability to absorb information from his/her surrounding, Beginnings provides an academic environment that is both developmentally appropriate and challenging. Our classroom is filled with enriching educational activities and materials designed to improve each student’s skills and confidence. Provided with a choice of stimulating academic activities, the young child makes the ultimate discovery: Learning is both rewarding and fun.
- Under the guidance of a Montessori-trained teacher, students at Beginnings:
receive an individualized, child directed academic program
utilize Montessori teaching materials that provide a “hands on” or “three dimensional” method of learning
learn skills and concepts by “doing”
are children of varying ages
work at his/her own level
The Beginnings Montessori classroom:
promotes problem solving and reasoning
develops logical thinking
encourages the development of self-confidence
Beginnings offers an individualized, child-affected learning program and provides the organization of group situations, which help the children in the development of socialization skills and self-esteem.
- The student/teacher ratio is approximately 10/1 for Prek/Kindergarten and 15/1 for Lower and Upper Elementary. All Begninnings teachers are certified with the American Montessori Society. All teacher aides and before and after care staff are CPR and First Aid certified.
